DOT inspections

Annual federal inspections performed on site, so units never leave the lot to get stickered.

The work

Stickered without leaving the yard

The annual inspection is a fixed cost of running a fleet. What it should not cost you is a driver, a tow, or a unit sitting at somebody else’s shop waiting for a bay.

Patriot performs annual federal inspections in your yard. Where a unit fails on something the mobile shop carries, the defect is quoted and corrected on the same visit rather than booked as a second call.

Scope

What the inspection covers

Brake system
Linings, drums, chambers, slack adjusters, lines and low-air warning — measured and recorded, not eyeballed.
Steering and suspension
Box, linkage, kingpins, springs, hangers and airbags checked against the federal criteria.
Lighting and electrical
Every required lamp, reflector and connection, including the trailer cord and the circuits behind it.
Tyres, wheels and rims
Tread depth, sidewall condition, fasteners and rim damage, with measurements recorded against the unit.
Frame, coupling and exhaust
Frame members, fifth wheel and pintle, plus exhaust leaks and mounting.
Paperwork and sticker
The completed report goes on the unit record, and the sticker goes on the unit before we leave.
Sequence

How an inspection runs

  1. 01

    Book the units

Tell dispatch which units are due and when the yard is quiet. Inspections are usually batched so a fleet is done in one visit.

  2. 02

    Inspected on site

Each unit is worked through the federal criteria in your yard, with findings recorded as they are made.

  3. 03

    Defects quoted

Anything that fails is quoted from standard repair times before it is touched. You decide what is fixed now.

  4. 04

    Stickered and filed

Passing units are stickered on the spot and the report is filed to the unit record in the portal.

Questions

Before you call

Can you inspect the whole fleet in one visit?

Usually. Inspections are batched by yard so units are worked through in sequence rather than booked as separate calls.

What happens if a unit fails?

The defect is quoted before any work starts. If it is something the mobile shop carries, it can normally be corrected and the unit stickered on the same visit.

Do you inspect trailers?

Yes — trailers are inspected against the same federal criteria, and trailer defects can be repaired on site.

Where does the paperwork go?

Onto the unit record in the portal, alongside its service history, so it is there when you need to produce it.
